The Platform
More than 30 years of collaboration dedicated to the research and conservation of biodiversity and Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems in some of the most unknown regions of the world's oceans, such as the Antarctic and the African Atlantic and Indian Ocean, support the trajectory of the team from the University of Vigo and the Spanish Institute of Oceanography .
In 2019, this team of researchers was established as a national non-profit association under the same name – ECOAFRIK – with the aim of supporting the project that both organisations were developing at the time. Currently, through the Platform, the team continues the line of research, while also carrying out advisory, training and dissemination activities.

Who we are
The team developing the EcoAfrik project is currently made up of a dozen scientists, including senior and postdoctoral researchers, PhD and Master's students, belonging to the Faculty of Marine Sciences of the University of Vigo , the Platform itself and the IEO-CSIC.
Researchers are highly specialized in the taxonomy and ecology of different groups of marine invertebrates, in particular in the deep fauna of the African Atlantic.
Since its inception 20 years ago, the project has been coordinated from Vigo, with Professor Fran Ramil from UVIGO acting as head of faunal studies. Researcher Ana Ramos has led the project from the Oceanographic Centre of Vigo until 2020, and continues to support the team in her current retirement situation.
